==Background== Omniums were automated self-powered, self-repairing and self-improving facilities. These factories were powered by fusion cores that, if destroyed, could result in nuclear fallout. ===History=== The omniums were conceived by Omnica in the company's twilight years. At the time, domestic robots were in high demand globally, but factories staffed by human workers were prone to delays, not to mention that humans required sleep. Omniums would streamline the manufacturing process, leading to better supply and lower overhead. Cities around the world vied for the honor of hosting an omnium facility, offering tax breaks and land grants. Detroit was chosen as the site of Omnica's flagship facility after extensive public review. The omnium was built and brought online in record time, but after less than a month, concerned citizens called for a full investigation, citing breach of contract. Omnica had promised jobs for local workers, which had failed to materialize. The first reviews conducted by local government uncovered shortcuts in the construction and licensing process. Deeper audits followed, both financial and material, quickly embroiling federal agencies and revealing how Omnica had overextended itself. The omniums were eventually dismantled following evidence of corporate fraud, but later reactivated of their own accord and launched attacks against humanity in a conflict that would come to be known as the Omnic Crisis.<ref name = "Vigilante">2015-05-27, Overwatch is Back: Uncertainty and Hope After UN Confirms Vigilante Activity.
