The United States is a geo-political entity that continues to exist in a post-Omnic Crisis world. Transcontinental train cars run across the country.[1] The American Southwest is a fairly lawless area, where various gangs spend their time robbing trains and carrying out bank heists.[2]

History[ | ]

Pre-Crisis[ | ]

Before the Omnic Crisis, the US used its military to enact regime change in various countries. While the regimes were cruel and authoritarian, what followed was the arrival of megacorporations, which took control and continued the same abuses under the auspices of maximizing profits.[3]

As climate change ravaged the world, there was a resurgence of yellow fever within the US, as the Aedes aegypti mosquito increased its range. At the same time, the country's west was experiencing a water crisis. Experts pushed to repurposed disused oil and gas pipelines to transport water into dry regions. However, this was not required due to the innovations of Michael Lomakema, who developed water extractors that could draw water from the surrounding air, and in a second model, from underground water tables, without having to drill new wells.[4]

At some point before the present, it was legal to wager and sell omnics between humans.[5]

In a case to the Supreme Court by Matthew Frank, GMOs were made open source. This helped alleviate global hunger in the wake of climate change and ensuing desertification. In another case brought forward by Mina Liao, a US court granted Aurora legal personhood.[4]

Due to the scandal involving the construction of the Detroit omnium, US federal agencies stepped in after the local government's review. It was revealed that the Omnica Corporation had lied to their shareholders and multiple governments as part of their bidding process and construction of the omniums.[4]

The US during the Omnic Crisis

When the Omnic Crisis hit America, the country was willing to try anything to win the war.[6] Consequently, the United States ran the highly classified but widely acknowledged "soldier enhancement program." Controversial, the program utilized pharmaceutical[7] (among other means) to create "perfect soldiers" blessed with superhuman speed, strength, and agility.[8] Ultimately, politics, mismanagement, and egos left it to Overwatch to finally win the war.[6] However, the war had displaced millions, and many of them looked for a new place to settle, or at least find steady work. By this point, the wagering and selling of omnics had been outlawed, though the practice continued in criminal circles.[5] At some point after the Crisis, the US was among the countries that gave omnics legal personhood.[4]

Recent History[ | ]

After the theft of a pulse rifle from the abandoned Watchpoint: Grand Mesa, the US conducted efforts to apprehend the intruder.[9] Atlas News reporter Olympia Shaw believed that this intruder was also responsible for previous bombings of corporate offices and financial institutions within the United States.[8]

Currently, the US is one of the countries affected by the Second Omnic Crisis.[10]
